Velvasoft Helping Hand
The Velvasoft Helping Hand systems are specifically designed to give the therapist complete control of weight placement, and the amount of finger extension desired. The weights for the short system attach to the helping hand material. The weights for the long system are placed within channels that run parallel to the wrist and forearm. The cylindrical tubes attach directly to both systems. This flexibility allows for specific proprioceptive feedback and skills, while the rigid cylindrical tubes inhibit the finger flexors. The helping hand systems are made with a soft, comfortable and extremely flexible fabric. This system is wrapped around the palm/wrist section of the hand, securing around the thumb/forearm with hook and loop system. Each cylinder has a fabric cover with a section of Velcro sewn to it allowing it to attach to the palm section when the helping hand is in place. To choose the correct size for each client, measure the width of the palm, and/or the forearm, then choose the size that corresponds to that measurement. Other items such as a hairbrush or toothbrush may be utilized with the helping hand; simply attach Hook Velcro to the item and attach the item to the palm section just as you would the cylinder.
The short helping hand comes in four sizes with four different sets of weights and four different size cylinders. The Long Helping Hand system comes with four identical size weights as well as the cylinders. Each system may be used with or without the weights or cylindrical tubes. Because of the design, and the type of fabric used, the helping hand is interchangeable for either hand. The Helping Hand Systems come in a variety of colors and the weight sets consist of different shapes. This combination encourages communication and involvement in therapy by allowing the clients to choose the colors and shapes they wish to use.
