VelvasoftTM and KoolnitTM blankets have been re-designed.
Instructions for Sensory Blankets
Our original blankets were designed with hook and loop closures. We have deleted the VelcroTM and added “SNAPS”, which we hope will make inserting the weights within the channels easier and more user friendly. We have deleted the large channels and eliminated the hidden strip.
As before the weight channels run diagonally along the width of the blankets. The weight strips are placed within the small channel; a guide is provided to help with insertion of the weights. The weight strips are specific to each blanket size. A letter and number tag at the end of each strip indicates which size blanket and the specific weight set. For example, SB 4 indicates that this strip is for a Small Blanket and a 4 pound weight set; MB 10 indicates that this strip is for a Medium Blanket and a 10 pound weight set, ect..
Before inserting the weight strips, lay them on top of the blanket along the weight channels, this allows you to place the correct length weight strips within the correct channels. Once you have established the correct channel, insert the guide, small hook side first, pushing it all the way though to the other end of the channel. Place the material loop/metal loop, located at the end of each weight strip, around the hook, gently pull the weight strip into the channel. We have made the “material” loop a little larger to allow you to “hook’ the material, as sometime the metal loop slipped off when pulling the weight into the blanket. Once the weight is pulled through to the other end, attach the “Male” portion of the snap to the “Cap end” making a complete snap. When removing the strips, gently pull the snap apart from both ends and slip the weight out of the blanket.
If the client initially resists the blanket the problem might be tactile input, too much or too little weight. For tactile problems, place a sheet between the client and the blanket. To determine if the blanket or wrap is too heavy, reduce the total weight by removing weight strips one or two at a time, evenly along the blanket until the blanket is accepted. If there is not enough weight, consider a heavier weight set.
Weight protocols are normally specified for 5% of the clients body weight however, customer feedback indicates that 10% of the clients’ weight is normally being used and is successful.
**The the new weights will fit the old style blankets however the old style weights will not stay in the new style blankets. If you have a old weight set and a new blanket, you need to pin the weights within the channels.

Velvasoft TM and Koolnit TM Sensory Blankets
Velvasoft TM and Koolnit TM Sensory Blankets provide proprioceptive feedback and stability. They are designed to be used with weight, in therapy settings or at home. Velvasoft and Koolnit blankets are designed with weight channels that run diagonally along their length, giving the clients body greater sensory input. They are soft, comfortable and considered “Class A” for flame retardancy, and completely washable. All weight sets fit both the Velvasoft and Koolnit TM Blankets. Weight sets are sold separately, allowing the therapist to choose the desired weight set needed.Velvasoft TM material also allows other sensory items to be attached directly to it when using “hook” material attached to the items.
Please note:**We have re-designed our blankets and weight sets. The XL blanket has been replaced by the redesigned Large. Our Velvasoft TM Wraps have been discontinued however they will still be available as special order items. The hook and loop closures and the hidden strip have been removed from all our blankets. Snaps are now located at the end of the weight channels to keep the weights within the blankets. The weights snap directly to the blanket helping to secure the weights within the channels.
If a client initially resists the blanket, the problem might be tactile input, too much or too little weight. For tactile problems, place a sheet between the client and the blanket. To determine if the weight is too much, reduce the total weight by removing weight strips evenly along the blanket until the blanket is accepted. If there is not enough weight, consider a heavier weight set. Customer feedback also indicates that 10% of the clients’ weight is normally being used successfully.
**There are 4 weight sets available for the Small and Medium blankets, 8 weight sets are available for the Large. Please be careful to order the weights that correspond with the blanket you wish.
